Goat Info
Goats are Fun
Goats are fun as they have different personalities. They can be intelligent, inquisitive, agile, and affectionate. The more you play with them the friendlier they become. They love to jump on old tyres or rocks and play “I’m king of the castle”. (Be careful, some like cars)
Remember goats are herd animals and need a friend. Make sure if you tether them that they can see each other. Otherwise they may make a lot of noise.
Some of the symptoms of worms in your goat
- pale (or white) gums (check the eye lid area as well)
- dull coat (can also be lice)
- diarrhea (can also be too much of a good thing)
- clumpy stools
- off feed
- tiredness
- Chronic coughing (lung worms)
- “Bottle jaw” (severe infestation) – swelling under the jaw.
Here are some things that our goats love.
Apple, banana (entire plant, fruit and peel), beans, blackberry, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, celery, citrus (even the sour ones skins and all), dandelion, garlic, ginger root, grapes including the vine, lemongrass, onion, pear, pine trees, plums, raspberry plant, rockmelon, roses (they love them), turnips, wattle trees.
Somethings that will make your goats very sick or kill them
Avocado, azalea, nightshade family (potatoes), oleander, peach tree leaves (especially when they are dying off), red lantana, Poison Peach, potatoes, rhododendron (very deadly), rhubarb.
